A judge in Washington state has repeatedly released a violent repeat offender, Kenneth Christopher Martinez, 44, without bail, despite his long criminal history that includes sex crimes against women and children. Between October and December, Martinez was arrested five times on various charges, including assault and violating a protection order, yet Judge Kristian E. Hedine released him from jail each time.
Residents have expressed concern as Martinez, a registered level III sex offender with a conviction for raping a 9-month-old infant, has allegedly stalked a new female victim. Martinez has a history of serious offenses, including first-degree child molestation, sexual abuse, and stalking. Multiple protection orders have been granted against him.
On November 2, 2024, Martinez was arrested for returning to the home of a woman protected by a court order. After being booked for criminal trespassing, Judge Hedine released him without bail just two days later. Prior to this, he had been arrested multiple times in October for various offenses, including criminal trespass and assault, and was released each time by the judge.
Martinez's extensive criminal history began in 1996 with a conviction for sexually abusing a child. He has since faced multiple charges, including failing to register as a sex offender. He received various sentences over the years, including time for robbery and rape, often getting early release.
Since being released in 2021, Martinez has continued to accumulate offenses, including traffic violations. Despite his alarming record, Judge Hedine continues to allow him back into the community, making residents fearful for their safety as Martinez appears to be targeting a new victim.
