Gavin Newsom Reveals Firefighters from Mexico Coming to Assist with Eaton Fire

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that firefighters from Mexico are coming to help with the Eaton Fire, which is part of the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. He expressed gratitude for the support from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum as California works to contain these fires. The firefighters from Mexico will join over 10,000 personnel already fighting the fires.

However, Newsom has faced criticism from California residents unsure about his response to the wildfires. Reports indicate that in 2024, Newsom cut $100 million from the state’s fire prevention budget, and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also reduced funding for fire services by nearly $20 million.

According to CalFire, there are currently four active wildfires, with the Palisades Fire being the largest, affecting 23,654 acres and 11 percent contained, followed by the Eaton Fire, impacting 14,117 acres and 15 percent contained. Sadly, at least six people have reportedly died due to the Eaton Fire.

The situation has drawn attention to the effectiveness of fire safety measures and budgeting decisions in California. Newsom's announcement reflects ongoing efforts to combat the severe wildfire threats in the area.
