Is Fluoridated Water a Threat to Public Health?

Recent discussions have arisen about the health risks associated with fluoridated water. Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller and U. S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. advocate for ending this long-standing practice, citing potential health issues.

1. Concerns Over Fluoridation:

• Fluoridated water was initially presented as a way to reduce dental cavities.

• Critics argue that it is a by-product of industrial waste, leading to health concerns.

2. Health Risks Identified:

• Studies link fluoride exposure to lower IQ scores in children, cognitive impairments, thyroid issues, and skeletal fluorosis.

• Fluoride is classified as a developmental neurotoxin.

3. Lack of Control Over Dosage:

• Everyone consumes the same water, regardless of individual health needs, which raises issues of consent.

4. Financial Interests:

• Industries benefiting from fluoridation, such as aluminum and chemical manufacturers, complicate the debate.

• Government entities often resist change due to established interests.

5. Global Context:

• Other countries, like Sweden and Germany, have moved away from water fluoridation due to health concerns.

Miller’s call to end fluoridation is a push for greater transparency and health accountability. Americans deserve to question what is added to their water without being dismissed. The ongoing debate reflects a need for reconsideration of fluoride's role in public health.
