A group of far-left activists stormed the office of House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Monday and were seen angrily chanting in favor of the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, a program that combats HIV/AIDS. Repeated declarations of "Pass PEPFAR now, McCarthy," rang in the House speaker's office.
A woman can be seen wearing a shirt that reads, "HIV POSITIVE." Posts on social media appear to indicate that at least one of the agitators was arrested over the incident.
Housing Works also mentioned the protest and said that its CEO, Charles King, and Health GAP Executive Director Asia Russell had been arrested along with others.
Newsweek reported that the U.S. Capitol Police made the following statement: "This morning, multiple individuals were demonstrating inside a House Office Building. After the demonstrators refused to cease demonstrating, USCP then arrested the 4 males and 3 females for Unlawful Entry."
