VAERS and VSAFE: The “Worst Case Scenario” Twice

This document outlines critical findings regarding Covid-19 vaccine safety reports in the United States, focusing on data from two programs – VAERS and V-safe. It emphasizes the discrepancy between reported vaccine safety and the actual volume of adverse event reports, raising questions about accountability among health officials.

1. Covid-19 Vaccination Rollout and Reporting Systems:

• Vaccination against Covid-19 began on December 14, 2020.

• The CDC established two programs to monitor vaccine safety: VAERS (Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System) and V-safe (a text message survey system asking vaccinated individuals about their health).

2. Surge in Vaccine Injury Reports:

• Official government estimates projected 1,000 reports of vaccine injuries daily, termed the "worst case scenario." However, actual reports far exceeded this number, reaching as high as 14,593 in a single day by August 22, 2021.

• For over a year, daily injury reports consistently surpassed the assumed "worst case," often doubling or tripling expected figures.

3. Failures in Processing Reports:

• The contractor managing VAERS, General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), faced significant backlogs and difficulties managing the inflow of reports. By early 2021, they reported they were unable to process all incoming reports in a timely manner, resulting in a backlog of over 70,000 reports by February 2021.

4. Government Communication vs. Reality:

• During the same period that injury reports surged, public officials, including President Biden, repeatedly stated that vaccines were “safe.” This contradicted internal communications that revealed processing delays and backlogs.

• Official statements proclaiming vaccine safety did not acknowledge the high volume of reports or delays in processing, leading to public misinformation.

5. Accountability of Health Officials:

• The document lists key health officials responsible for these communications and decisions, including the President, CDC Directors, and FDA personnel, highlighting lapses in accountability amidst rising concern over vaccine safety and reporting.

6. The Role of V-safe:

• The V-safe system, intended to monitor health impacts, saw millions register, yet reports indicated a significant number of cases went unanswered, with many not receiving callbacks or having unclear outcomes recorded.

7. Budget and Contractual Issues:

• The federal contracts for processing VAERS and V-safe reports totaled around $35 million, with later expansions to address the increasing workload, often lagging behind the urgent need for timely reporting and follow-up.

The analysis reveals a troubling gap between public statements about vaccine safety and the actual reporting of adverse events. While the government projected low rates of injury reports, the surge in actual data contradicted these claims, raising serious questions about the responsiveness and accountability of health officials dealing with vaccine safety. The need for transparency, as well as accurate and timely communication with the public, remains critical in addressing these issues.
