President Donald Trump signs executive order to bring down diesel costs during Nebraska rally

On October 5, 2026, President Donald Trump announced and signed an executive order during a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska. This order aims to reduce diesel prices for certain users.

The executive order allows for the temporary use of tax-free red-dye diesel normally restricted to off-road vehicles.

By deferring the federal diesel tax until the end of the year, the order makes this fuel more accessible.

Trump emphasized that this measure is meant to bring down costs for users of farm vehicles, construction equipment, and other off-road machinery.

He stated, "Tonight I'm going to sign an historic executive order to officially waive the off-road requirement and allow anyone to purchase tax-free red-dye diesel for any reason."

The announcement came as part of a rally supporting Nebraska GOP Sen. Pete Ricketts, who is seeking re-election in the upcoming midterms.

This executive order is part of Trump's broader strategy to alleviate fuel costs for various vehicle users and aims to appeal to voters ahead of the midterm elections.
