A recent NBC News poll indicates a decline in the number of Americans intending to vote by mail for the 2026 midterm elections. The survey, conducted among 1,000 registered voters, revealed that only 19 percent plan to vote by mail, a decrease from 25 percent in 2024 and 30 percent in 2020. Conversely, 31 percent plan to vote early in person, up from 26 percent in 2024, while 44 percent are set to vote on Election Day, similar to previous years.
The poll results varied by political affiliation. Among Democrats, 23 percent plan to vote by mail, down from 34 percent in 2024. For independents, 20 percent plan to vote by mail, compared to 28 percent previously. Republican respondents showed less change, with 16 percent planning to vote by mail. Additionally, a separate poll found that confidence in the U.S. Postal Service delivering election mail on time has fallen to 58 percent, down from 71 percent in 2024.
