Democrat-Linked Group Behind $229-a-Vote Pitch Took Millions From Foundation Tied to Chinese Charity With CCP Branch

A voter mobilization initiative aimed at increasing voter turnout for the 2026 midterms is heavily funded by organizations linked to Democratic donors, raising concerns about connections to foreign influences, specifically a Chinese charity.

1. Voter Mobilization Plan: The Center for Voter Information (CVI) and the Voter Participation Center (VPC) are pushing a nationwide campaign with over 11 million mailings for voter registration and 2.2 million mail-ballot applications to specific states.

2. Cost per Vote: The campaign estimates a cost of $229 for each additional vote, based on their success in the previous presidential election, where they claimed to have secured nearly 271,442 extra votes.

3. Target Audience: The campaign is focused on engaging young people, people of color, and unmarried women through various forms of advertising across digital platforms.

4. Funding Sources: Significant funding is coming from organizations tied to Democratic political interests, including a $5 million grant from Laurene Powell Jobs’s foundation and $5.8 million from the Enlight Foundation, connected to a Chinese organization with ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

5. Mailer Controversies: Past mailers from these groups have faced criticism for intimidating recipients by grading their voting history compared to neighbors, leading to legal challenges, although the groups claim their actions are typical of social pressure tactics.

The ongoing efforts to mobilize voters for the upcoming midterms reveal a complex mix of funding and strategic outreach, raising questions about the influence of foreign entities and the nature of the campaigns labeled as nonpartisan.
