The White House has launched a new online resource called the “Fraud Ledger” that tracks efforts to prevent fraud in government programs, particularly in healthcare. This initiative aims to show taxpayers how much fraud is being identified and stopped.
The administration has identified nearly $230 billion in fraud and prevented about $56 billion in fraudulent payments, with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) being a major focus.
HHS has reported over $90 billion in improper payments, mainly in Medicare and Medicaid, with fraud in Medicaid labeled as the “highest-impact” action since January 2025.
Improper payments do not automatically indicate fraud; they can result from mistakes or administrative errors.
Federal agencies reported $186 billion in improper payments in fiscal year 2025.
The government is enhancing data-sharing and enforcement tools to reduce fraud and improper payments.
The Fraud Ledger aims to keep the public informed about efforts to fight fraud, with ongoing updates from federal agencies regarding enforcement actions and savings to taxpayers.
