U.S., Japan confirm coordinated yen intervention, signal readiness for more

On Monday, Japan's finance ministry announced a coordinated operation with the U. S. Treasury to buy yen, aiming to stabilize the currency after significant fluctuations.

The yen fell to 163.73 against the dollar before strengthening to 157.57 on Friday. As of Monday, it was trading at 157.70.

The Japanese government is prepared for further interventions if necessary and remains in close contact with the U.S. Treasury.

The intervention was in line with a joint statement from September 2025, addressing excessive volatility in the yen's value.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the coordinated action, emphasizing support for Japan’s economic policies.

The operation may raise concerns about U.S. strategies, as some analysts suggested selling euros instead of dollars could weaken confidence in the yen.

The joint action marks a rare alliance effort to stabilize the yen, highlighting the close financial relationship between Japan and the U. S.
