Fauci Declines Second Senate Testimony Request

Dr. Anthony Fauci declined to voluntarily appear before a second Senate panel after being voted in contempt of Congress by the Homeland Security Committee. His lawyer stated that compelling Fauci to testify would unfairly harass him for political reasons. During a previous July 29 hearing regarding his COVID-19 pandemic response, Fauci invoked the Fifth Amendment against self-incrimination 100 times, which led to the contempt vote on August 6 and a referral to the Department of Justice.

Senator Rand Paul, who sought the contempt finding, argued that a preemptive pardon from President Biden removed any risk of prosecution, claiming the constitutional protection did not apply to Fauci. Paul has accused Fauci of misleading the public and has called for his prosecution. Additionally, Senator Ron Johnson, chair of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, aimed to investigate Fauci’s handling of the pandemic and the COVID-19 vaccines further.
