Democrat state lawmaker ARRESTED for allegedly STEALING federal pandemic funds

Two Massachusetts Democratic lawmakers have been arrested for alleged fraud related to federal pandemic relief funds, highlighting claims of corruption at a local level.

Recent Arrests: State Representative Francisco Paulino, 46, was arrested for applying fraudulently for over $700,000 in pandemic-related funds using information from his tax preparation business.

Charges: Paulino faces multiple charges, including eight counts of wire fraud and three counts of unlawful monetary transactions, which could lead to significant prison time if convicted.

Previous Arrest: Earlier this month, Lawrence Mayor Brian DePeña was also arrested, accused of stealing over $1.5 million in pandemic funds for personal use and campaign financing.

Statements from Officials: U.S. Attorney Leah Foley condemned the actions of both Paulino and DePeña, emphasizing the impact these scams had on hard-working Americans during a difficult time.

Independent Investigations: Foley stated that the cases are unrelated and that investigations have been ongoing for three years, indicating that they predate the current administration.

The arrests of these two politicians underline serious allegations of misconduct regarding pandemic relief funds, raising concerns about ethical conduct within local government.
