Walter Lee Muhammad, a 46-year-old from Atlanta, has been arrested again for drug trafficking, specifically for selling fentanyl. This incident follows a previous pardon granted by former President Joe Biden for a prior fentanyl-related conviction.
Recent Arrest: Muhammad was arrested on August 5, 2026, for possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances. He was caught loading suspected drugs into his BMW in Atlanta.
Pardon Background: Muhammad had his sentence commuted by President Biden in December 2024. He was serving a ten-year sentence for federal charges related to the distribution of fentanyl from a 2020 conviction.
Discovery of Drugs: After a traffic stop by the Guilford County Sheriff's Office in North Carolina, authorities discovered 29 kilograms of suspected cocaine in Muhammad's vehicle. Upon searching his apartment in Atlanta, agents found additional narcotics, including seven kilograms of suspected heroin and two kilograms of suspected fentanyl.
Previous Convictions: Besides the current charges, Muhammad has a history of drug trafficking, with previous convictions for conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 1999 and marijuana in 2010.
Legal Proceedings: Following his arrest, a federal complaint was filed, and Muhammad appeared in front of a federal magistrate judge in North Carolina. He is currently being held by the U.S. Marshals Service and is expected to appear in court in the Northern District of Georgia on later dates.
Walter Lee Muhammad's case highlights the ongoing challenges of drug trafficking and recidivism, as he returned to illegal activities shortly after receiving a pardon for similar offenses. His current legal situation raises concerns about the effectiveness of rehabilitation and the dangers posed by drug distribution.
