Trump on Platner: ‘Interesting, when a Republican woman came out with the same charge, no one believed her’

President Donald Trump recently spoke about Maine Senate nominee Graham Platner amid serious allegations of sexual misconduct against him. Two women have accused Platner of non-consensual sexual conduct, including one who claims he raped her.

● Trump was asked if Platner should step down from the race, to which he responded that it comes down to whether people believe the women making the allegations. He noted that while some may lie, Platner is in a difficult situation.

● Trump highlighted a perceived double standard in media coverage, mentioning that a Republican woman, Lindsey Fifield, who had made similar claims about Platner was largely ignored, while the current allegations are receiving significant attention.

● Fifield, a conservative writer, previously dated Platner and indicated he exhibited abusive behavior, including "stealthing," which refers to removing condoms without consent.

● The situation escalated when Jenny Racicot, a Democrat, accused Platner of rape, prompting wider media coverage.

● As a result of the pressure from party leaders, Platner announced his withdrawal from the Senate race, stating that he must step back for the movement's benefit while maintaining that the allegations against him are false and unjust.

Graham Platner has officially suspended his campaign due to backlash from the allegations and pressure from Democratic leaders, despite continuously denying the claims against him.
