An illegal immigrant truck driver, Deepak Kumar, was arrested after police found nearly $3 million worth of stolen tungsten oxide powder in his semi-truck. This incident raises concerns about illegal immigrants driving commercial vehicles carrying hazardous materials in the United States.
The arrest occurred on June 27, 2026, when Greenfield police received tips about stolen cargo traveling in Indiana.
Kumar, a 31-year-old from India living in California, was found with 10 pallets of tungsten oxide, used in various products including armor-piercing ammunition.
He presented a California commercial driver's license, an expired work visa, and a fraudulent New York license.
Authorities lost contact with the driver before the scheduled pickup on June 24.
The chemical shipment was intended for Mitsubishi Materials Corporation in Japan.
Kumar has a criminal history with previous arrests for fraud and identity theft.
