Andrew Gillum, a former Democratic gubernatorial nominee for Florida, was arrested in Alabama last week following a traffic stop that revealed marijuana and methamphetamine.
● Gillum was stopped on July 2 around 10:45 p.m. due to erratic driving on U. S. Highway 98.
● During the stop, officers found a glass pipe and later conducted a search that uncovered rolled marijuana cigarettes and methamphetamine.
● He faces charges for unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree marijuana possession.
● Previously, Gillum came close to winning the Florida governor's race in 2018, losing to Ron DeSantis by less than 34,000 votes.
● Gillum’s issues began before this arrest, including an incident in 2020 where he was found intoxicated in a Miami hotel after another man overdosed.
● He had previously faced federal charges related to misuse of campaign funds but was acquitted of lying to the FBI.
The Alabama incident marks a new chapter in Gillum's public struggles, and the case is still developing with no attorney representation confirmed yet.
