NY Gave 53% of CDLs to Aliens: Sec. Duffy Could Revoke Their Power to Issue CDLs

The U. S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has taken action against New York for issuing a large number of commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs) to foreign nationals illegally. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy announced the possible revocation of New York's ability to issue CDLs unless compliance measures are implemented.

• An audit revealed that 53% of CDLs issued to foreigners in New York were done so illegally.

• The DOT had previously granted New York four months to comply with regulations but states' officials did not take corrective actions.

• As a result, the DOT withheld $73 million in federal funds from New York and warned that further withholding could occur.

• The investigation uncovered fraudulent CDL schools that provided licenses without proper curriculum or training.

• Duffy criticized the New York state government for prioritizing political goals over public safety and has made similar threats towards California, which is reportedly delaying the cancellation of 17,000 illegally issued licenses.

• California's Governor Gavin Newsom claimed a class-action lawsuit was the reason for the delay, but Duffy refuted this, stating that deadlines must be met to ensure safety on the roads.

• The actions taken by both states are framed as part of a broader "globalist agenda," with concerns emphasized around the potential risks posed to American drivers and the integrity of the licensing process.

The situation highlights a significant conflict between state actions regarding commercial driver’s licenses and federal regulations aimed at ensuring safety on U. S. roads. The potential consequences for failing to comply with federal laws include substantial funding losses and administrative penalties.
