Jose Ceballos, the Mayor of Coldwater, Kansas, has pleaded guilty to illegally voting in U. S. elections while being a green card-holder from Mexico.
• Ceballos admitted to voting multiple times in U. S. elections and falsely claimed to be a U. S. citizen on his voter registration form.
• The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) highlighted the importance of the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program in identifying such cases.
• DHS officials and President Trump are advocating for the SAVE Act, which seeks to enforce stricter voter ID laws to ensure election integrity.
• Ceballos was first issued a green card in 1990 and applied for naturalization in February 2025, claiming he was unaware of the laws against voting as a non-citizen.
• He was found out after he volunteered his voting history during his citizenship application process.
This case serves as a reminder of the laws surrounding voting eligibility in the United States and the ongoing discussions regarding election integrity and voter identification requirements.
