Marion, South Carolina
A standing room only crowd of Marion County residents filled a meeting hall in downtown Marion at 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon to confront what they see as one of the most consequential and potentially destructive industrial projects ever proposed for their community. Project Liberty, a $2.4 billion data center complex planned to sprawl across 500 acres of local farmland.
What unfolded was not a routine civic gathering. It was a sharp expression of grassroots democratic push back against a project that many believe has advanced quietly and opaquely, far from the public eye.
Residents Demand Transparency: Dozens of residents lined up to speak, raising pointed questions about the massive infrastructure burdens the facility will pose on the power grid, water supply, environment, and taxpayers. https://samueleburns.substack.com/p/project-liberty-sparks-outrage-in
