House passes GOP's SAVE America Act

On February 11, 2026, the U. S. House of Representatives approved the SAVE America Act, aimed at voter registration and identification requirements.

• The SAVE America Act mandates individuals to provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote and requires voters to present identification.

• The bill was passed with a narrow vote of 218-213, receiving opposition mainly from Democrats, with only Texas Representative Henry Cuellar supporting it.

• House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that requiring an ID for voting is common sense, as Americans need identification for various everyday activities.

• Following its passage in the House, the legislation will move to the Senate for further consideration before potentially being signed into law by President Donald Trump.

The SAVE America Act reflects ongoing debates about voting regulations in the U. S. The next step is for the Senate to evaluate the bill after its narrowly successful passage in the House.
