U.S. House passes two more govt funding bills, sending to Senate

On Wednesday, the U. S. House of Representatives passed a bipartisan minibus to fund several federal departments and agencies for the entire fiscal year 2026, sending it to the Senate for final approval.

• The approved minibus provides $76 billion for the departments of State and Treasury, the IRS, and other branches of government.

• It is the second funding progress made by the House this month, following five appropriations bills passed in January.

• Three of the 12 appropriations bills were previously signed into law in November.

• The package includes a national security and foreign affairs bill, costing $50 billion, with allocations for the Department of State and global humanitarian programs.

• Additionally, a $26.3 billion bill funds financial services and government activities, including expenditures for the Treasury and Judiciary.

• Both parties made compromises, with Democrats emphasizing election security funding and Republicans highlighting spending cuts of $9.3 billion from last year.

• Last week, the House passed another minibus covering several departments including Justice and Energy.

• To meet the January 30 funding deadline, the Senate must pass both minibuses before their week-long break.

If signed by President Trump, Congress will have completed eight appropriations bills, leaving four more to tackle.
