The 2025 World Chinese Language Conference in Beijing highlighted the continued involvement of American educators, education officials, and students with China's Confucius Institutes, despite previous warnings from U. S. intelligence agencies about these institutes' links to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
• U. S. intelligence has long warned that Confucius Institutes serve as platforms for CCP influence globally.
• The conference, held in Beijing, featured American attendees including representatives from education systems, charter schools, and Confucius Institutes.
• Notable participants included:
• Lian Xinmei from Utah's Mandarin immersion program,
• Yang Yang, co-founder of International Leadership of Texas,
• Paul Manfredi, director of the Washington State Confucius Institute,
• U. S. students such as Nicholas Goldring and Daniel Broadwater, who are studying in China.
• British universities, including Newcastle University, also sent representatives to the event.
• China reported significant growth in its education influence, with Chinese language instruction now integrated into the education systems of 86 countries, affecting over 200 million students worldwide.
The conference underscores that, despite the closure of some Confucius Institutes in the U. S., American educators and students are still actively engaged with China’s educational framework, while Beijing's influence continues to expand globally.
