Congressman reveals secret weapon in defense bill: bureaucracy bunker buster

Rep. Glenn Grothman discussed the recent National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which includes significant measures to reduce federal spending and personnel in the Department of Defense.

• Job Cuts: The NDAA proposes cutting up to 19% of civilian jobs in the War Department, aiming for an estimated savings of $30 billion.

• Personnel Reduction: Grothman highlighted that the Department of Defense has 760,000 civilian employees and indicated that further reductions are planned in response to the current needs of a highly technical military environment.

• Fiscal Responsibility: He emphasized the importance of addressing federal borrowing, which currently stands at 26% of the budget.

• Legislation Approval: The NDAA is nearly 3,100 pages long and was passed by the House with a bipartisan vote of 312-112. Following House approval, it will proceed to the Senate and then to the President for final approval.

• Transparency Measures: The bill includes provisions for the War Department to provide unedited videos of military actions against terrorist organizations in specific regions and demands more transparency regarding the origins of COVID-19, particularly concerning intelligence about the Wuhan lab where the virus might have originated.

The proposed defense bill, supported by Rep. Grothman, aims to streamline the Department of Defense by reducing civilian personnel and enforcing transparency measures related to military actions and health crisis origins. These steps are intended to promote fiscal responsibility and efficiency within the federal defense framework.
