Massive Immigration Victories This Week

For years, the national conversation on immigration has been stuck. It’s been dominated by headlines about border security and enforcement, leaving the core issue—the sheer scale and adverse impact of mass legal immigration—unaddressed.

Since the Immigration Accountability Project (IAP) was founded, we have worked to educate Americans on historically high immigration levels, expose flaws in programs like guest worker visas, and highlight the negative effects of a massive noncitizen population on our elections.

Until this week, it was rare to find a high-profile official willing to question publicly whether bringing in over one million legal immigrants and hundreds of thousands of guest workers every year truly serves the national interest.

At Turning Point USA's first campus event since the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, Vice President J.D. Vance delivered the most direct and powerful challenge to high immigration numbers we have ever heard from a politician of his stature. He declared, boldly and confidently:

"My honest view is that right now, America, thanks in part to the Biden border invasion, but also thanks in part to a lot of bad immigration policy ... We have let in too many immigrants into the United States of America. That is a fundamental reality."

— Vice President J.D. Vance

The Vice President was responding to a student’s question asking about his views on legal immigration. You can watch the full exchange here.

This is an unprecedented moment. Since I began working on this issue in 2008, I can count on one hand the number of elected officials who have dared to say what Vance said this week. And none has been the Vice President of the United States—a figure considered a top contender for the 2028 Republican Presidential nomination.

This week also saw another significant public figure, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, take a stand on a major immigration issue. As the direct result of a proposal IAP presented to the Governor’s team in August, DeSantis has ordered state universities to stop hiring H-1B nonimmigrant workers. Like Vice President Vance’s statement, Gov. DeSantis’ order is unprecedented. IAP will be working fervently to encourage other state governors to follow his lead and stand for American workers.
