As President Donald Trump's tariffs take effect and midterm elections approach, a recent poll indicates that voters are primarily worried about rising costs and inflation.
• The Center Square Voters' Voice Poll surveyed 2,565 registered voters from October 2-6, 2025, and revealed that 15% of respondents view price increases and inflation as their top concern.
• Other issues of concern included government corruption (13%), economy/jobs (11%), health care (9%), illegal immigration (8%), and crime/violence (7%).
• Pollster Mike Noble noted that everything, from insurance premiums to groceries, is becoming more expensive, leading to voter frustration.
• Despite Trump pledging to lower prices during his campaign, many essentials have seen significant price hikes over the past year, including coffee (20.9%), ground beef (12.8%), and various other grocery items.
• The Labor Department warns that Trump's immigration policies may worsen the situation by disrupting production and increasing consumer prices.
• Major retailers, responding to the tariffs, are expected to raise prices, with Goldman Sachs estimating that U. S. consumers will bear 55% of the tariff costs.
• The poll showed that 51% of voters disapprove of Trump’s economic management, although his handling of illegal immigration is viewed more positively now.
The poll highlights a disconnect between Trump’s economic promises and the realities of rising costs for voters, who prioritize their financial concerns ahead of the upcoming elections.
