Senate Democrats block bill to end government shutdown for 11th time

Senate Democrats blocked legislation again to reopen and fund the federal government, marking the 11th time this has happened. The shutdown has lasted for 20 days, making it the third-longest in U. S. history. Senate Majority Leader John Thune criticized Democrats for putting their far-left interests ahead of American needs.

Congress was supposed to pass funding bills by September 30, but House Republicans proposed a short-term solution to keep funding until mid-November when it became clear they could not meet the deadline. Senate Democrats rejected this plan, insisting it include health care provisions like extending Obamacare subsidies. Republicans declined to add these policies, leading to the shutdown on October 1, with no progress on a resolution.

Democrats expressed concern over rising health care costs if subsidies are not renewed, while Republicans blamed them for the situation, stating they would not negotiate until funding is no longer linked to health care issues.
