Authorities Arrest Pastor For Allegedly Using Church As Immigration Fraud Center

 A Florida pastor and his accomplice were arrested for allegedly running a fraudulent immigration scheme, tricking desperate migrants into paying large sums of money for legal help that they never received.

1. Individuals Involved:

• Nelson David Ochoa-Vasquez, 46, a pastor at La Iglesia de Dios Jireh.

• Ismer Gonzalez, 45, Ochoa-Vasquez’s alleged accomplice.

2. Charges and Arrest:

• Both were arrested by the sheriff's Organized Crimes Bureau for participating in an "organized scheme to defraud. "

• Ochoa-Vasquez is charged with organized fraud and second-degree grand theft.

• He is currently held on an immigration detainer.

• Gonzalez faces similar charges plus an additional charge for practicing law without a license.

3. Modus Operandi:

• The duo targeted at least 16 immigrants between April 2024 and January 2025.

• Ochoa-Vasquez reportedly gained the victims' trust through his role as a pastor.

• He referred victims to Gonzalez, who pretended to be an immigration attorney.

4. Financial Scam Details:

• Victims reportedly paid around $21,000 for legal services that never materialized.

• Payments were made primarily via Zelle to a company named Brothers Multiservicio LLC or directly in cash to Ochoa-Vasquez.

• The funds were allegedly misused for personal luxuries, including designer brands and overseas travel.

5. Background of the Accused:

• Neither Ochoa-Vasquez nor Gonzalez is licensed to practice law in Florida.

• Gonzalez has prior outstanding warrants in North Carolina for similar fraudulent activities.

The arrests of Nelson David Ochoa-Vasquez and Ismer Gonzalez highlight serious issues surrounding immigration fraud, exposing how some individuals misuse trust and authority to exploit vulnerable populations.
