Trump Gets Broad Backing On Illegal Immigration Crackdown

A recent I&I/TIPP poll shows that President Donald Trump's immigration policies, which include deportation and military assistance at the border, are popular among American voters. This support appears to span across political affiliations, including a notable segment of Democratic voters.

1. Poll Findings on Deportation Support:

• About 57% of surveyed voters support Trump's plan for large-scale deportations of illegal migrants.

• Opposition stands at 35%, while 8% remain undecided.

• Republican and independent voters overwhelmingly back the deportation plan, while nearly one-third of Democrats support it too.

2. Military Assistance for Immigration Enforcement:

• When asked about using the military to help with immigration enforcement, support rises to 57% overall.

• Democrats show less support (33%) compared to Republicans (85%) and independents (54%).

• Notably, black (47% support) and Hispanic voters (51% support) from the Democratic base are more in line with Republicans regarding military deployment at the border.

3. Use of Presidential Emergency Powers:

• Respondents are divided on using emergency powers to expedite deportations, with 42% agreeing it’s necessary.

• An additional 18% support its use only in extreme situations, suggesting a substantial total majority favors some form of increased action.

4. Effectiveness of Trump's Immigration Orders:

• Sixty-one percent of participants believe Trump's immigration measures will be effective in reducing illegal immigration.

• Support is strongest among conservatives (87%) and moderately favorable among liberals (38%).

5. Reduction in Illegal Immigration:

• Recent data indicates that illegal border crossings are dramatically decreasing, with reports of fewer than 400 daily encounters, pointing to a 90% reduction compared to previous years.

• The number of "gotaways," or individuals avoided capture, has also significantly declined.

6. Potential Impact on Future Elections:

• Success in enforcing immigration laws may influence Republican chances in the upcoming midterm elections.

• The disparity between Democrats' radical immigration policies and the views of their constituents could hinder them politically.

Trump's immigration policies, which focus on deportation and military enforcement, have garnered substantial support among voters, transcending party lines. With significant evidence of reduced illegal immigration, these policies might play a crucial role in shaping future election outcomes, especially concerning the Republican Party's appeal in 2026.
