President Donald J. Trump's budget proposal faced its first challenge when the Congressional Budget Resolution (H. Con. Res. 14) passed by a narrow margin of 217 to 215. The resolution, which includes $4. 5 trillion for tax cuts and over $1. 5 trillion in spending cuts, initially faced resistance from some Republican members but eventually gained enough support after intervention from House Speaker Mike Johnson and President Trump.
In contrast, the Senate passed its own budget resolution, which provides $175 billion for border security and $150 billion for military funding. This resolution differs significantly from the House's version and requires further discussion in committees. Both the House and Senate must eventually agree on a unified bill to advance Trump's legislative agenda, with the House plan currently being prioritized.
