Federal Bureaucrats Launch Resistance Website

Federal bureaucrats have responded to the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) with a humorous, yet misguided website called "We the Builders. " This site serves as an outlet for their grievances against DOGE.

• "We the Builders" aims to criticize DOGE, labeling it as a group of "destroyers. " The site parodies official government communication with a logo similar to the Soviet hammer and sickle, repurposed with a wrench and spoon.

• Their mission statement asserts, "We don't work for DOGE," despite their social media presence on a platform owned by Elon Musk, a key figure they oppose.

• Established by the Office of Management and Budget in 2014 after the failed rollout of HealthCare.gov, the U. S. Digital Service was repurposed as DOGE under President Trump's administration.

• Employees from the former USDS express fear that DOGE's actions will lead to insecure handling of personal data. They argue that government data collection is vital and should be protected.

• However, data security under USDS was poor, with numerous breaches occurring during the Biden administration. Therefore, claims of improved security under DOGE are considered unfounded.

• The frustrations expressed on "We the Builders" largely focus on bureaucratic tasks, such as a recent email from the Office of Personnel Management requiring staff to report their accomplishments, which was met with derision from contributors, particularly one named "Publius. "

• The accountability of federal workers to the executive branch is emphasized, undermining the idea of independent operation from the President. The article posits that the creators of "We the Builders" do not represent the diligent workers within the federal system.

The creation of "We the Builders" reflects a resistance to efficiency reforms, misrepresenting the realities of government accountability and data security issues, while failing to acknowledge the ongoing need for governance improvements.
