3 politicians are accused of faking mail-in ballots in a 2021 mayoral race in a Philly suburb

Three politicians from a small borough near Philadelphia have been indicted for attempting to fraudulently win a mayoral race in 2021 by submitting fake mail-in ballots.

• The politicians involved are Mohammed Nurul Hasan, Mohammed Munsur Ali, and Mohammed Rafikul Islam.

• They allegedly created about three dozen false mail-in ballots to influence the election outcome.

• A federal grand jury claims they conspired to register individuals living outside Millbourne as borough residents.

• The indictment states they arranged for mail-in ballots to be sent to themselves and returned completed ballots to the elections board.

• Hasan was serving as the vice president of the borough council and had previously lost the Democratic mayoral primary.

• Ali had won the Democratic primary for the borough council, while Islam lost his primary bid.

• The fraudulent activity happened during Hasan’s unsuccessful campaign as a write-in candidate for mayor in the fall of 2021.

• Hasan and Ali reportedly told outside residents they wouldn’t face consequences as long as they did not vote in another election.

• Some individuals were registered as voters without their knowledge.

• The three are charged with conspiracy, providing false information in voter registration, and fraudulent voter registration.

• Hasan and Ali did not have listed attorneys in court records, while Islam's lawyer stated his client is only involved in three of the alleged issues.

The indictment highlights efforts to manipulate the electoral process and emphasizes the legal consequences of engaging in voter fraud. The three politicians are facing serious allegations that threaten their political careers and integrity.
