President Joe Biden allocated over $3 billion to help implement his diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) agenda within federal agencies. This funding was above and beyond existing DEI costs across various departments. From his first day in office on January 20, 2021, Biden prioritized DEI initiatives, signaling that cultural issues were more urgent than national security concerns like the fentanyl crisis.
Biden's focus on "equity" instead of "equality" aligns with a Marxist approach to enforce equal outcomes, which some criticize as cultural Marxism. In June 2021, he furthered this agenda by requiring federal departments to advance DEI, resulting in significant taxpayer waste on DEI training and consulting services, affecting agencies such as the FBI and the Department of Defense. The executive orders mandated that agencies develop DEI plans that necessitated outside contractors for implementation, often without competitive procurement.
Several contracts exemplify this spending. Deloitte received a $7. 1 million deal for DEI services for Health and Human Services, and CALCO Enterprises got $8 million for DEI training in the Job Corps program. Tyler Federal, LLC, was awarded $3. 2 million for DEI data services with the Defense Department, and Timothy Londagin, LLC, received contracts totaling $5 million without competitive bidding. Accenture Federal Services, LLC, was provided $2. 8 million for DEI implementation with advocacy for transgender healthcare. LMI Consulting and Booz Allen Hamilton also received millions for DEI projects, despite federal layoffs.
The Department of Health and Human Services is highlighted as particularly pro-DEI, spending over $57. 4 million on a strategic plan that includes sensitivity training and performance metrics tied to DEI compliance for executives. The National Institute of Health (NIH) exemplifies the controversial direction of DEI efforts. It considers race in grant applications and has initiatives that redefine sex and gender, including a webinar that discusses pregnancy in non-traditional frameworks.
NIH's spending included a webinar that claimed only using "women" in pregnancy research was biased, suggesting it excluded transgender men and nonbinary individuals. Comments from NIH experts criticized traditional views, framing them as oppressive.
The article argues that the current DEI policies waste taxpayer money and advocate for hiring based on merit instead. It calls for defunding DEI initiatives to save funds and enhance national excellence.
