Liberalism is incompatible with Christianity

Government is necessary to do what people cannot do for themselves, as outlined in the Constitution. Its main roles include preserving the union, protecting citizens, ensuring peace, and promoting prosperity. However, current political parties in the U. S. seem to diverge from these objectives. One party is seen as harming safety, prosperity, and unity, while the other fails to effectively protect rights and limit government size.

Christians are called to obey lawful authorities while also forming their consciences and opposing unlawful commands. Some public figures, particularly liberals, have caused scandal by leading others astray on critical issues, like abortion. The Church has consistently opposed abortion, citing biblical teachings that protect unborn lives. Pope John Paul II stated this teaching is unchanged and that abortion is a serious moral disorder as it involves the deliberate killing of an innocent person. Supporters of abortion argue against the humanity of the unborn, ignoring the truth that all humans, regardless of their development stage, possess human rights.

Transgenderism also conflicts with Christian beliefs. According to the Church, God created male and female, indicating a clear understanding of gender based on biblical scripture. Those who claim to "feel" like another gender are expressing emotions that do not change their biological characteristics. Altering one’s body through chemicals or surgery does not change genetic identity and is comparable to a disorder where individuals wish to eliminate healthy body parts.

Liberalism additionally promotes unrestricted immigration, a topic discussed by St. Thomas Aquinas in the 13th century. He argued for careful consideration of immigrants, noting that not all foreigners are beneficial. Immediate citizenship should not be granted to newcomers, as they may not share the community's interests securely. Recent polls show immigration as a leading concern for many in the U. S. , especially in light of violent incidents linked to illegal immigrants.

Archbishop Robert McElroy recently stated that while nations must have secure borders, mass deportations could violate dignity and are against Catholic teaching. Critics suggest he may not be accurately informed about the situation. Former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official Tom Homan clarified that deportations would not involve indiscriminate sweeps but rather targeted actions based on knowledge of individuals.

Archbishop Carlo Maria ViganĂ² responded to McElroy, arguing that deportation is justified by natural law and essential for preserving social order, countering views held by some in the Church. There are also broader concerns involving failed governance, with radical left-wing policies causing chaos and suffering across various places due to poor government responses to crises like natural disasters.

For governments to be effective, they must fulfill their purpose of protecting citizens and creating conditions for their well-being. When governments fail in this, they risk putting citizens in danger and poverty. Following recent voting, there is hope that future leadership can align with Christian values and provide better governance.
