LA Fire Dept Blew Seven-Figure Sums on DEI Before Deadly Wildfires.

The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) has invested significant funds in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives, coinciding with the ongoing wildfires affecting the area.

• Prior to the wildfires, LAFD allocated $673,810 in the 2022-23 fiscal year for “Equity and Inclusion Staffing” to support a new Human Resources Bureau.

• An additional $418,778 was designated for “Diversity in Recruitment” to attract women and underrepresented groups.

• For the 2024-25 fiscal year, $1,777,715 was approved for continued DEI staffing, including various leadership positions.

• Local firefighters are currently struggling to control the wildfires due to inadequate resources like waterless fire hydrants and personnel shortages.

• California fire departments have also donated surplus equipment to Ukraine in recent years.

The financial focus on DEI within the LAFD raises questions as the department faces significant challenges in managing the wildfires.
