Kohl's has announced the closing of 27 underperforming stores across the US, including locations in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Virginia. This decision, made on January 9, is part of the company's real estate changes for 2025. The store closures are set to be finalized by April 2025 and aim to strengthen Kohl’s store portfolio while adapting to changing consumer trends. Affected locations include Pottstown in Pennsylvania, East Windsor in New Jersey, Stoughton in Massachusetts, and Herndon and Williamsburg in Virginia.
Kohl's CEO, Tom Kingsbury, explained that these difficult decisions are necessary to support the long-term health and growth of the business. Employees at the affected stores have been informed and will receive severance packages or options to apply for other positions within the company. Additionally, Kohl's plans to close its San Bernardino E-commerce Fulfillment Center in California when its lease ends in May 2025. Despite these closures, Kohl’s remains committed to its profitable store base, which includes over 1,150 locations nationwide, while also focusing on improving its smaller stores and digital shopping experience.
