How To Reduce The Federal Deficit Fast

Our national debt exceeds $35 trillion, and reducing it requires urgent action beyond just balancing the budget. The federal government gathers revenue from many sources but spends more than it takes in, creating a deficit. The national debt also accounts for planned future expenditures that haven't been spent yet.

To address the national debt quickly, suggestions are made for the 119th Congress and the Trump Administration as they finalize the FY-2025 federal budget. First, every federal agency should report new, unfilled positions or those vacant for four months. Hiring for these positions should be halted, especially within the IRS, and the corresponding budget funds should either be eliminated or redirected to pay down debt.

All government contracts for mRNA stockpiles should be canceled due to safety concerns. Additionally, agencies should report unspent appropriated funds and incomplete obligations. Funding directed at "green" initiatives should be pulled, as these are described as unfounded.

Agencies should also terminate contracts that may incur some costs but ultimately save more money by cutting waste. This applies to any Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs, gender-affirming care, support for illegal immigrants, funding for "sanctuary" areas, and new federal facilities, which may no longer be necessary as staffing decreases.

Specific funds allocated for electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles, and other climate resilience projects under the Inflation Reduction Act should be canceled. This includes billions in support for zero-emission vehicles and infrastructure, all of which adds up to significant amounts.

The text anticipates that President Trump will address the conflict in Ukraine. Funding for military support related to Ukraine should also be identified and eliminated from future budgets.

If the Trump Administration and conservative Congress members can significantly reduce the debt in a few months, it will positively impact their reputation as they approach the next election. Staff and appointees should compete to minimize their roles, and Congress may benefit from increased funding for a task force dedicated to reducing government size.

Immediate action is necessary, and citizens expect the Trump Administration and Congress to deliver results.
