Former Congresswoman Debbie Lesko Calls for “Comprehensive Audit of Entire Election System” in Maricopa County After Being Sworn in as County Supervisor, Florida Secretary of State to be Consulted for Changes

Former Congresswoman Debbie Lesko, after becoming a Maricopa County Supervisor, announced her intention to conduct an audit of Maricopa County's election system, stating it is very important to her constituents. This contrasts with the previous administration's view that elections were run with integrity, despite problems in the last three elections. Former County Chairman Bill Gates had claimed the 2022 election was handled well, even though 60% of vote counting machines failed on election day, affecting mainly Republican voters.

An earlier forensic audit of the 2020 election revealed serious issues with ballot handling and election law compliance. Lesko had previously voted against certifying the results of that election, which she believed was stolen. Recent elections also saw contested results, particularly the race involving Kari Lake, who lost despite significant Republican support in other contests.

Maricopa County's key election official, who is known to oppose Kari Lake, has been accused of bias, further raising concerns about the election's fairness. Lesko's call for an audit received some support from County Chairman Thomas Galvin, although his previous defense of past elections raises questions about his impartiality.

Additionally, Lesko and Galvin have consulted with state officials from Arizona and Florida to explore potential improvements to the election system. In her speech after being sworn in, Lesko emphasized election integrity as a main focus of her term. She has indicated her desire to work with reputable firms to assess the election process. Lesko also expressed her genuine intent to ensure elections are run correctly, responding to skepticism about her motives.

The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors welcomed several new members along with Lesko, and the accountability of their elections is under scrutiny. The need for reliable elections was highlighted by Lesko as she reiterated her commitment to this issue, outlining potential enhancements based on discussions with state leadership.

Lesko seeks to ensure a trustworthy election system for her voters, motivated by promises she made during her campaign. She aims to engage with experienced companies that can offer insights into improving current practices.
