Biden’s Border Chief Grants Amnesty To 850,000 Migrants

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is granting temporary amnesty to 850,000 migrants by expanding the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months. This new policy includes 234,000 Salvadoran migrants who were given TPS after the 2001 earthquake in El Salvador. It also covers 600,000 economic migrants from Venezuela, as well as individuals from Ukraine and Sudan.

During Mayorkas' time at the Department of Homeland Security, the number of migrants under TPS has tripled to around one million, which includes a significant number of Haitian migrants. The announcement to extend TPS also applies to those from Ukraine and Sudan.

In his final weeks in office, Mayorkas has further expanded opportunities for foreign graduates to secure white-collar jobs in the U. S. and to transition from jobs to the process for obtaining green cards and citizenship.
