Things Worth Considering 1

If this holds true it is a great Christmas gift for most Americans.

Breitbart reported that the Senate advanced a massive $1.7 trillion spending bill on Tuesday which includes another $45 billion worth of additional aid to Ukraine.

Yet the legislation now appears to face a serious risk of failing, and the reason why will have many Americans cheering.

Conflict over Trump-era border policy

According to Fox News, Democrats are ready to balk over an amendment written by Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee which would keep a Trump-era COVID measure known as Title 42 in effect.

Under Title 42, illegal immigrants can be swiftly removed from the country. While lawyers for the Biden administration are asking the Supreme Court to throw out the rule, Chief Justice John Roberts has temporarily blocked a lower court ruling which struck it down.

A Fox News poll conducted in May found that 63% of Americans wanted Title 42 to remain in effect. What’s more, even some Democrats are calling for it to remain.

Texas Democratic Rep. Vicente Gonzalez told CNN Newsroom on Tuesday that “most people here in south Texas agree that enforcing Title 42, at least for the near future, is a good idea.”

However, he complained that the Biden administration “has been under a lot of pressure from some migrant activists to lift it and allow people in.”

Lee’s amendment called “a poison pill”

Sahil Kapur is NBC News’ senior national political reporter, and he said in a tweet on Thursday that Lee’s amendment could result in the bill being voted down by House Democrats.

Punchbowl News senior congressional reporter Andrew Desiderio agreed with that assessment, citing an unnamed Senate aide who called the amendment “a poison pill.’

Graham blasts House Democrats for unwillingness to accept amendement

Meanwhile, South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham put out a series of tweets blaming Democrats for the debacle.

“Republicans are willing to work with Democrats, but not at all costs,” Graham said. “I support the omnibus bill – even though the process is broken and it is bigger than it should be – because it meets our national security needs.”

“However, if the omnibus – which dramatically increases military spending and funds the government – fails because Democrats care more about letting Title 42 lapse than funding the federal government, so be it,” he added."   Spending bill put in doubt by Title 42 amendment | Conservative Institute

This is a depiction of the Marxists oriented leftists in our midst view of Christmas and, therefore, Christians. See what you think...

Quote: "Leftist: Christmas would be nice if it weren’t for all the icky Christian stuff. I’m not Christian, but I’ve always been grateful to live in a country where people so generously share the season’s beauty with me. However, I’ve never lost sight of the fact that “the reason for the season” is the birth of the man that super-Catholic Joe Biden describes as “a child Christians believe to be the son of God.” In other words, Jesus Christ. No Christ means no Christmas. However, for one British woman, what really spoils the otherwise lovely Christmas season is all that icky Christian stuff.

Polly Toynbee, a regular columnist at The Guardian, Britain’s left-leaning newspaper, wrote a column entitled (for real), “Christmas comes with good cheer. The tragedy is the religious baggage.” Yeah, it’s a real shame about the reason for the season.

Toynbee opens her article by celebrating that Christianity is dying in Britain. “This is the first Christmas since time immemorial [note: actually, since the seventh century] that most people in this country are not Christians.” She might be less enthused about this decline if she contemplated the fact that, as Christians vanish, the number of Muslims swells. Using data from Wikipedia, I compiled a little chart about Islam’s growth in Britain:

That’s a pretty impressive growth curve. Toynbee will be surprised to learn that, when Islam is the majority religion, you don’t get to write cute little columns saying, “That Eid al-Fitr party was great but why all that stupid religious fasting before it?”

From that inauspicious start, Toynbee’s column goes straight downhill. She admits to enjoying the traditions and good feelings, especially that bit in It’s a Wonderful Life. You know the one:  “[I]ts belief in collective good at Christmas overcoming the ogres of Pottersville capitalism—never mind Clarence the angel.”

She concedes, too, that a bit of fun in the middle of the winter is good, even necessary. But the carols? Blech.

The dense theology of carols inculcating bizarre concepts skates past most singers – “veiled in flesh the godhead see, hail the incarnate deity” and the sheer impudence of “lo he abhors not the virgin’s womb”.

It’s apparent that, given the choice, Toynbee would infinitely prefer this woke carol that one British church sang:
