A moderate Democrat for Lee Zeldin

As someone who has never voted Republican, I am deeply troubled by the New York Democratic Party.

New Yorkers whose income tops $1 million face combined state and city tax rates of 13.55%, still higher if exceeding $5 million.

Since New York collects 41.5% of its income taxes from the highest-earning 1% of its residents, these departures have already put a strain on state and city budgets.

These positions may be at odds with a majority of New York voters, but neither makes him an extremist.

The main point is that given Democratic majorities in both legislative chambers, a Gov. Zeldin would have no ability to change state abortion laws, and New York laws already guard against uncontested ballot curing.

No Republican governor of overwhelmingly Democratic New York could do that.
