A former Polish minister, Piotr Kulpa, has claimed that Ukrainian officials have embezzled a significant portion, up to half, of the U. S. aid sent to Ukraine and funneled some of it back to the Democratic Party through money-laundering schemes. Kulpa suggests that the war and associated corruption in Ukraine extend to the U. S. as well, asserting that much of the aid provided is mismanaged or misappropriated. According to him, the Democratic Party has received substantial kickbacks from these embezzled funds, which raises concerns about the true amount of aid reaching Ukraine.
Kulpa indicated that a substantial percentage of the U. S. aid, originally intended to support Ukraine, has been stolen, estimating that between 30% and 50% of the funds are pocketed by Ukrainian officials. Although the U. S. has reportedly given $175 billion to Ukraine since February 2022, only $106 billion of this amount has been allocated to the Ukrainian government.
Historically, Ukraine has been recognized as highly corrupt, ranked as the most corrupt country in Europe as reported by Transparency International in 2014, with a low score reflecting its corruption issues. The report outlined that Ukraine has not improved significantly in its corruption status, remaining on par with countries like Uganda.
Additionally, recent allegations also surfaced regarding the Ukrainian First Lady, Olena Zelenska, who is said to have ordered an expensive luxury car, which indicates a disconnect between official aid and personal expenditure during a time of national crisis.
